Candidate for Ward 2

Let's build a better ward 2 together.

I’m Ajmal Noushahi, and I’m running to be your voice for ward 2. Practical priorities, honest budgets and a city government that listens and helps residents and works with them, making it easier for residents to get things done, not harder.

Why I'm Running

I’m Ajmal Noushahi, and I’m running to be your voice for Ward 2. With years of experience in business, education, and serving our community, I believe in practical solutions, responsible decisions, and listening to the people who call Ward 2 home.
I’m committed to working together to make Ward 2 a stronger, safer, and better place for everyone.
I have called Ward 2 home for more than 23 years, and I have built my life and career by working with people and serving our community. I bring more than 35 years of experience in business and entrepreneurship, along with experience in real estate and education. I also had the opportunity to serve the City of Barrie as a transit operator for 10 years.
Today, I continue to operate a local driving school and work with people from many different backgrounds every day. These experiences have taught me the importance of listening, understanding different perspectives, and finding practical solutions.

I believe we can do better.

I want to see smarter infrastructure funding, greater transparency in how our tax dollars are spent, better snow removal, safer and more vibrant downtown, and streets and parks that receive the attention they deserve. We also need to make it easier for residents and small businesses to work with the city, with faster answers and fewer unnecessary delays. My goal is simple: respect taxpayers’ money, listen to residents, and focus on practical improvements that make a real difference in Ward 2.

The Platform

My commitments.

Clear priorities I’ll champion at City Council — focused on your everyday life in Barrie.

Smarter Infrastructure Funding

Commit to finding alternative funding methods for infrastructure — not automatically raising the levy year after year.

Homelessness & Mental Health

Support shelters and treatment facilities while exploring real community-based solutions to end homelessness in Barrie for good.

Home Business & Affordable Housing

Help residents use their properties for home-based businesses, second suites, and permits to earn more — and fight for genuinely affordable housing.

Better Snow Removal

Increase funding and service levels for snow removal. Our winters are hard enough — clear streets and sidewalks should not be a luxury.

A Safer Downtown

Make downtown safer so businesses grow and visitors feel welcome — while easing the burden on our police services.

City Staff That Say Yes

Create an environment where city staff help residents get permits, licenses and approvals quickly and in a friendly, respectful manner.

Long-Term Planning

Focus on doing things once and doing them right — saving taxpayer dollars instead of paying again and again for repeated fixes.

Streets, Roads & Neighbourhoods

Fix the streets and roads that have never been fixed, add more signal lights, and build safer roads, parks and neighbourhoods.

Budget Transparency

Speak for residents and break down exactly where property tax dollars go — police, garbage collection and more — so every dollar is understood.

Where Your Taxes Go

You deserve to know exactly what your property tax pays for.

Budget transparency isn’t a slogan — it’s a duty. I’ll break down every part of your tax bill, from policing to garbage collection, so residents understand their dollars and can hold City Council accountable. The illustrative breakdown here is the kind of clarity I’ll bring to every budget.

“Doing things once and doing them right saves taxpayer dollars — that principle guides every line of the budget I’ll fight for.”

A More Responsive City Hall

Residents and small businesses deserve a City Hall that is easy to deal with.

I will work to make city services more efficient, reduce unnecessary delays, and improve the process for permits, licenses, and approvals. People should receive clear information, timely responses, and respectful service when they need help from the City.

Let’s make City Hall more accessible, efficient, and responsive to the people of Barrie

A city hall that works for you.

Residents and small businesses shouldn’t dread dealing with the city. I’ll push for staff and systems that help you get permits, licenses and approvals quickly — and with a friendly, respectful attitude.
